City of Salem web site survey doesn’t work. So fitting!

I hate the City of Salem web site.

It was hard to use before it was supposedly "improved," and now I find it even more confusing. Getting info on City Council meetings and staff reports is way more difficult than before.

So I was thrilled to see a Community Connection email in my inbox this morning.

An item invited me to take a Website Navigation Survey.

Ooh, ooh! I'd be HAPPY to, City of Salem. I was SO looking forward to telling them how difficult their web site was to use and navigate.

Except… when I clicked on "Take Our Website Navigation Survey!" all that happened was this image popped up in my Safari browser.

Take our survey

Not surprisingly, clicking on the image didn't do anything. Nor did clicking on the "But act quick…" sentence, which wasn't a link; it was just in blue. And when I opened the email in my browser, nothing happened again. Same with Chrome, a different browser.

Probably City of Salem staff will fix the broken/non-existent links before too long. I just couldn't resist sharing this so-fitting tale of how a "Take Our Website Navigation Survey!" invitation wasn't capable of being navigated.

This seems to sum up the current state of affairs at City Hall. I give most City of Salem staff for having good intentions. It just seems that converting those intentions into effective actions that truly benefit this town happens way less often than it should.
